Dubai to Boost CommerCity for Digital Economy Expansion
Dubai CommerCity (DCC) is set to advance its expansion with a significant investment of Dh1.8 billion ($272.2 million), aimed at bolstering the emirate’s digital economy. This initiative marks the second phase of development for the free zone, dedicated to supporting digital commerce and technology industries in Dubai, and is anticipated to unfold between early 2027 and late 2028.
Plans for Expansion
The expansion project encompasses multiple phases, as detailed in a statement by Dubai Media Office. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (Diez), expressed optimism about this development, noting that it reinforces Dubai’s capabilities to adapt and grow in the face of global economic challenges. The upcoming phase will introduce a series of projects within DCC’s three sectors: the Business Cluster, Logistics Cluster, and Social Cluster.
Upon completion, the new projects will add over 91,000 square meters of office space, significantly increasing DCC’s capacity. This expansion is not merely about physical space; it also aims to create a more integrated ecosystem that effectively caters to businesses engaged in digital commerce and technological advancement. The demand for DCC’s offerings has been impressive, with occupancy rates soaring close to 96% in existing office, logistics, and retail facilities.
Investors’ Confidence
Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the rising confidence investors have in Dubai’s economic framework. The expansion aligns seamlessly with the objectives outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which seeks to establish Dubai as a pivotal global hub for digital commerce. The D33 agenda, launched earlier this year, aims to double the emirate’s economy to reach Dh32 trillion by 2033, positioning Dubai among the top three leading cities globally.
To support this ambitious target, the plan includes initiatives to facilitate the growth of 30 private companies into unicorns, each valued at over $1 billion. A dedicated incubator program will also champion the growth of 400 promising private enterprises. The recent plans to enhance both the Business and Social Clusters reflect the commitment to providing diverse options for local, regional, and international businesses looking to integrate into the vibrant Dubai CommerCity ecosystem.
Enhanced Infrastructure
The Business Cluster will see additions of six new buildings designed for various office space needs, including shell-and-core offices, fully outfitted workspaces, and flexible plug-and-play environments. This versatility aims to attract a wide range of companies looking to establish a presence in Dubai.
Furthermore, within the Logistics Cluster, the phase two expansion will introduce ‘The Hive,’ a cutting-edge facility spanning 5,600 square meters. This innovative space will offer an alternative logistics model and will include 181 flexible units along with climate-controlled areas for fulfillment. Digitally managed unloading and loading zones will further streamline operational efficiency, underscoring DCC’s role as a pioneer in modern logistics solutions.
In summary, Dubai CommerCity’s planned expansion is a strategic initiative that not only showcases investor confidence but also aims to significantly enhance the digital economy. With tailored spaces and innovative facilities, this project is poised to attract a myriad of businesses seeking growth opportunities in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.
