Dubai CommerCity and Agentic AI Partner for Digital Commerce
Dubai CommerCity is embarking on an exciting journey by partnering with the Global Commerce Foundation to explore the potential of agentic AI in the realms of digital and cross-border commerce. Announced on October 7, 2026, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at Dubai CommerCity’s headquarters in conjunction with Ai Everything Abu Dhabi 2026. This collaboration is primarily focused on research and pilot programs rather than immediate product releases, meaning consumers won’t see changes just yet.
Details of the Collaboration
Dubai CommerCity stands out as the first free zone in the MENA region specifically designed for digital commerce, operating under the auspices of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority. The Global Commerce Foundation is an independent international organization dedicated to fostering collaboration among markets, businesses, entrepreneurs, and academic institutions. The goal of this partnership is to delve into AI technologies that could streamline business operations, enhance efficiency, and facilitate market expansion for companies.
The agreement emphasizes a research-driven approach. According to Economy Middle East, the MoU encompasses a variety of activities, including applied research, proof-of-concept projects, technology demonstrations, and market studies. Furthermore, it promotes the sharing of best practices among participants. The focus is on developing and testing potential applications before scaling effective models for wider use. The MoU also outlines plans for executive education, training, mentorship programs, incubation, and business acceleration initiatives.
Amna Lootah, Director General of Dubai CommerCity, emphasized the shift toward AI systems that take on more autonomous roles, moving beyond traditional support tools. This agreement aims to improve companies’ access to markets not only in Dubai but also in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Upcoming Global Finale in 2027
A significant aspect of the partnership is the planned Global Finale of the Tetrix Agentic World League, scheduled to take place in Dubai in 2027, during Dubai AI Week. Marcos Pueyrredon, president of the Global Commerce Foundation, considers this event a crucial milestone. The eCommerce Institute’s AI for Unified Commerce competition, part of this league, invites companies to showcase the effectiveness of their implemented AI solutions through verifiable results.
The Global Commerce Foundation plays an essential role in providing networks and insights that will be tested in real-world business environments. According to Pueyrredon, this collaboration will unlock valuable insights across various networks, including the eCommerce Institute in Latin America and the Caribbean and EICOM in Europe.
This partnership aligns with a broader initiative in Dubai aimed at advancing self-executing AI in the private sector. Economy Middle East reports that the Dubai government, led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched a two-year initiative in May to propel businesses in the UAE toward adopting more autonomous AI technologies. Dubai CommerCity aims to serve as a testing ground for AI systems that can efficiently manage logistics, listings, and cross-border trade.
On the consumer level, mobile app shopping habits are already prevalent among UAE and Saudi consumers, as indicated by Deloitte’s digital consumer trends data. However, the announcement does not specify when, or if, these AI-driven tools developed from this partnership will be available to shoppers.
By capitalizing on the advancements in AI-driven commerce and actively participating in collaborative research and development projects, Dubai CommerCity is positioning itself as a leader in the digital commerce landscape of MENA. This proactive approach not only aims to enhance efficiency and market reach for businesses but also sets the stage for an innovative future in consumer shopping experiences.
