Dubai’s Ehsan Aims for Tech Startup After $150,000 App Victory
A talented 13-year-old from Dubai has recently gained recognition after winning a significant $150,000 prize for developing an innovative educational app aimed at enhancing learning experiences in classrooms across the Gulf region. This young entrepreneur, Ehsan Adouane, aspires to revolutionize education through technology, making knowledge acquisition more engaging for students.
A Remarkable Achievement in App Development
Ehsan emerged victorious in the Best Youth-made App category during the prestigious Create Apps Championship held in Dubai. The competition, organized by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, drew nearly 10,000 entries from aspiring developers around the globe. His achievement is particularly remarkable given that he received special permission to enter the contest at just 12 years old, as the minimum age requirement was 14. The event is part of a broader initiative by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, to stimulate app development and entrepreneurial ventures in technology.
The Dubai American Academy student created the app with the aim of making education interactive and enjoyable, integrating quizzes, challenges, and games that cover essential subjects like mathematics, science, and general knowledge. Known to his online followers as “Ettan Ehsan,” he has gained considerable popularity on his YouTube channel, where he engages with scientists and technology enthusiasts, sharing their insights with an audience of 58,000 subscribers.
From Vision to Reality: The Development Journey
Ehsan’s journey into coding began at the tender age of five, and he devoted two years to developing a prototype for his app. Utilizing C++ and Qt software tools, he translated his visions into reality while his family hired an external developer to create its iOS and Android versions, now accessible in app stores. Ehsan plays a pivotal role in directing the app’s features and development priorities, emphasizing that his goal is to support educational institutions rather than replace traditional teaching methods.
His innovative approach garnered attention at the competition, where judges remarked on his infectious energy and engaging presentation style. Renjit Philip, a startup mentor who observed Ehsan’s pitch, noted how the young presenter’s charisma captivated the audience, making him a standout among his peers.
Building a Sustainable Educational Technology Business
The $150,000 award he received is structured as a managed development fund, disbursed in phases contingent on approved milestones and expenses. With the backing of his family, Ehsan plans to invest this funding into enhancing the app’s features, conducting research, and establishing a business presence in Dubai. His vision extends to incorporating artificial intelligence to tailor learning experiences and creating a desktop version of the app, with the ultimate goal of marketing it to educational institutions.
Ehsan’s immediate focus will be on developing a polished product that meets educational needs, while surveying teachers and students to determine the next version’s features. His proposed business model includes a subscription fee charged to schools on a per-student basis. Although he acknowledges that seeking external investment is a future consideration, his primary objective remains improving the app and proving its demand in the educational landscape.
By forging partnerships with schools and engaging users, Ehsan aims to position his app as a crucial educational resource. He recognizes the importance of starting young in the tech industry, stating that there’s less to lose, and is determined to achieve significant milestones in the coming year.
Ehsan Adouane exemplifies the youthful innovation that can transform educational experiences through technology, making him a shining example for aspiring young developers in the region and beyond.
