Dubai Economic Zones Authority increases Oraseya Capital fund to AED1 billion.
The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has recently announced a significant increase in the venture capital fund managed by its investment branch, Oraseya Capital. The fund is set to expand from AED 500 million to AED 1 billion. This growth is intended to enhance Oraseya Capital’s ability to support companies with high potential for global expansion, while also playing a crucial role in the entrepreneurship landscape of Dubai, aligning with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33. This move reaffirms Dubai’s status as a global venture capital hub.
Investment Growth and Vision
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman of DIEZ, expressed that this expansion reflects the firm belief in Dubai’s role as a leading technology center. He emphasized that the directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum focus on cultivating a knowledge-based economy bolstered by innovation. By increasing the fund’s capacity, DIEZ aims to provide essential resources and expertise to promising startups, helping them thrive and expand into both regional and global markets.
DIEZ has also raised the maximum allowable investment per company from USD 3 million to USD 6 million. This change enhances the fund’s ability to engage in larger financing rounds, enabling it to support businesses that are further along in their growth journeys. Additionally, Oraseya Capital will broaden its investment focus beyond UAE-specific firms, opening doors to global companies that hold strategic importance for the country and providing access to diverse international opportunities.
Strategic Investment Approach
Oraseya Capital is refining its investment mandate to assist entrepreneurs at varying stages of their journey, even beyond Series B funding. This expanded focus allows the fund to invest in companies with established business models and strong growth prospects while also nurturing early-stage startups. This approach positions Oraseya Capital to play a pivotal role in nurturing the next wave of billion-dollar companies, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a premier business hub and a platform for regional and international growth.
The fund has been recognized as the UAE’s most active investor for three consecutive years, according to MAGNiTT’s rankings. With consistent top rankings across various metrics, Oraseya Capital has established a strong presence in the venture capital ecosystem, exemplifying its effective investment strategies and rapid growth. It was awarded the title of ‘Venture Capital Firm of the Year’ at the Entrepreneur Middle East Awards 2025, underscoring its standing within the industry.
Impact on the Economic Landscape
Since its inception in November 2023, Oraseya Capital’s portfolio has grown to include 66 active companies, with an average of 25 investments annually. The fund has facilitated eight cohorts of its SANDBOX program, which provides substantial investment and support to selected startups. The economic impact of these investments is evident, with annual recurring revenue from portfolio companies increasing from around USD 180 million at the time of investment to USD 387 million today.
The cumulative fundraising of portfolio companies has reached USD 1.1 billion, demonstrating their competence in attracting further investment and sustaining growth. Oraseya Capital is committed to supporting high-growth enterprises led by exceptional teams, with a focus on diverse sectors including fintech, healthcare, AI, and digital commerce.
