Mansoor bin Mohammed Recognizes 14th Dubai Sustainable Transport Award Winners

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 14th Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) showcased excellence in sustainable mobility. The event emphasized Dubai’s commitment to enhancing transport sustainability while promoting innovative solutions across various sectors.

Acknowledging Excellence in Sustainable Transport

At the award ceremony held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor recognized outstanding entities and individuals for their contributions to sustainable transport. Organized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), DAST encourages both government and private sectors to adopt best practices in sustainable transportation, innovation, and smart mobility. This year saw an impressive 750 submissions—a staggering 400% increase from previous years—with 158 entries qualifying for final evaluation. This growth reflects the rising global interest and commitment to sustainable transport initiatives.

Exploring the Future of Mobility

Tony Seba, an expert in technology disruption, delivered a keynote address outlining the rapid evolution in the transport sector due to technological advancements. He highlighted that major changes, such as the rise of electric and autonomous vehicles, are paving the way for a new transportation model called Transport-as-a-Service (TaaS). This model fosters the integration of autonomous fleets and presents opportunities for reimagining urban landscapes.

Seba drew historical parallels, noting how New York City’s transition from horse-drawn carriages to automobiles significantly reshaped the urban environment. He emphasized that Dubai is uniquely positioned to lead these transformations due to its innovative capabilities and strategic foresight.

Significant Contributions and Emerging Solutions

The award also focuses on inspiring impactful solutions that enhance the sustainability of urban transport. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s Director General, stated that the increasing participation in DAST illustrates its growing significance as a platform for sharing best practices in sustainable transport. This year, the awards recognized a diverse array of projects, showcasing advancements in areas such as clean energy, traffic safety, and urban mobility.

Among the winners, the Greater Amman Municipality received the Elite Award for its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which has successfully integrated various public transport services into a cohesive and efficient network. Additionally, innovations in inclusivity and clean energy were showcased, with awards going to organizations like Keeta Drone and Emarat EV Charging Stations for their groundbreaking initiatives aimed at enhancing transportation accessibility and environmental sustainability.

Promoting Sustainability and Collaboration

The Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport primarily seeks to encourage participation from institutions and individuals in creating safe, accessible, and eco-friendly transport solutions. By raising awareness of mobility issues and fostering creativity, the award aims to cultivate collaboration between RTA, government entities, and the private sector. This initiative not only addresses immediate transport challenges but also lays the groundwork for innovative solutions that prioritize sustainability.

The award welcomes contributions from a wide range of applicants, including governmental agencies, private firms, and students, encouraging submissions that tackle mobility challenges and promote sustainable practices. As Dubai continues to evolve as a hub for innovative transport solutions, the DAST plays a crucial role in driving the city’s vision towards a sustainable future.
