The upcoming Airport Show 2026 in Dubai is set to be a pivotal event, focusing on the latest advancements in airport technology. Scheduled for October 12-14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, this show aims to highlight innovative approaches to enhance passenger experiences as the region invests heavily in transforming its airports into seamless travel hubs.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), substituting manual checks with biometric verification can reduce processing times by up to 40%, significantly improving passenger flow and minimizing wait times.
Dubai International Airport, recognized as the busiest airport globally for international traffic, has launched its AI-driven “Red Carpet” smart tunnel, capable of processing multiple travelers simultaneously. Simultaneously, Al Maktoum International Airport is progressing towards its operational launch in 2032, featuring an AI-enhanced ecosystem designed for personalized passenger experiences and optimized flow management.
Pioneering Developments in the UAE
The UAE is leading the charge in adopting biometric solutions, with Emirates Airlines among the first to implement such technology. Since 2017, they have installed over 200 biometric boarding cameras as part of a substantial investment, allowing registered travelers to check in, undergo immigration, access lounges, and board flights using facial recognition alone. Etihad Airways is also innovating, testing AI-based facial identity verification for various touchpoints, while flydubai is integrating biometric functionality into self-service kiosks.
In tandem, multiple UAE airports are now linked to a single smartphone application permitting eligible travelers to complete their immigration procedures pre-departure through a one-time registration, further streamlining the travel process.
Future Trends and Development
The global biometric technology market is predicted to soar, estimated to reach approximately $150.58 billion by 2030, while the specific market for airport biometrics services is anticipated to grow to $276.56 billion by 2032. Current data suggests that over 43% of airports worldwide have already implemented biometric boarding systems, with more than half planning to adopt integrated digital identity management solutions within the next three years. By 2027, it is expected that around 75% of airports will leverage biometrics across crucial checkpoints, including check-in and border control.
According to May Ismail, Event Manager at RX Middle East, the transformative power of biometric technology is enhancing airport operations by reinforcing security measures, improving convenience for passengers, and enabling facilities to manage increasing travel volumes effectively. She noted that airports in the Middle East are increasingly viewing biometric innovations as vital to delivering a faster, more secure, and entirely contactless travel experience.
