Dubai introduces its inaugural family-focused AI literacy platform.

Dubai’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) has introduced GenDubAI, a groundbreaking platform aimed at enhancing parental understanding of children’s interactions with artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative, created in partnership with the Community Development Authority (CDA) and the Dubai Future Foundation, is designed to foster creativity, safeguard privacy, and promote family involvement in AI learning experiences.

Empowering Families Through Interactive Learning

GenDubAI offers an array of engaging, user-friendly content reflecting the rich values and culture of the UAE. This educational tool addresses pivotal questions regarding AI usage, providing parents with guidance and resources to help their children navigate this technology effectively. By encouraging critical thinking and creativity, the platform aims to enhance children’s learning experiences while ensuring they use AI resources responsibly.

Available in both Arabic and English, GenDubAI caters to families with children aged between 8 to 15 years. It features a mobile-friendly interface, ensuring accessibility for all users. This innovative approach emphasizes the shared experience of learning about AI within the family unit, fostering discussions and collaborative exploration.

A Commitment to Future Generations

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, the Director General of CDA, emphasized the rising significance of AI in the lives of younger generations. She noted that it is incumbent upon families and society to raise awareness and instill essential values. Buhumaid stated, “Preparing future generations begins with people. Empowering them with the tools of tomorrow must go in tandem with awareness, values, and responsibility.”

The GenDubAI platform positions families at the center of the AI learning journey, transforming technology into a shared learning space that encourages dialogue and creativity. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader goals, as outlined in the Dubai Social Agenda 33, of equipping young individuals to engage confidently and responsibly with evolving technologies while preserving their cultural identity.

Supporting Parents and Engaging Children

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, remarked on the UAE’s leadership in AI adoption. He acknowledged the growing prevalence of smart devices in children’s lives both at school and home. The platform seeks to help parents guide their children in seizing the opportunities presented by AI, all while navigating its inherent challenges. “Knowledge of safe and responsible AI use is one of the most valuable gifts parents can offer to help their children succeed in this digital age,” Belhoul noted.

Saeed Al Falasi, Executive Director of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, added that GenDubAI is intended to provide children with the benefits of AI under parental supervision. The platform is structured around ‘family moments’, integrating AI discussions into daily life. By promoting meaningful conversations, children can develop a deeper understanding of the technology while enjoying a shared family experience.

The design of GenDubAI ensures its continuous evolution through the addition of fresh content, tools, and educational pathways, allowing it to adapt to rapid technological advancements. This forward-thinking approach aims to meet the ever-changing needs of families, ensuring they remain informed and engaged in their children’s digital education journey.

By focusing on family engagement and creating an educational resource that reflects local values, GenDubAI stands as a unique initiative to prepare the next generation for a future where AI plays an integral role.
