DMCC Unveils Lab-Grown Diamond Division Amid Record UAE Trade

DMCC, located in Dubai, has launched a Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical to cater to the rapidly evolving lab-grown diamond market. This initiative supports a sector that thrives on advanced manufacturing technology and an increasing demand for unique jewellery.

Record Growth in Lab-Grown Diamonds

The UAE witnessed unprecedented trade volumes in lab-grown diamonds in 2025, with a staggering 76.9 million carats exchanged, marking a significant 91.5% increase compared to the previous year. The total value of this trade also rose, reaching $1.3 billion, a 7.5% gain from 2024. This remarkable growth demonstrates a robust demand and indicates that the market is not merely fluctuating but is firmly on an upward trajectory. The figures show a notable doubling since 2022, climbing by 109% from 36.8 million carats. Both imports and re-exports are thriving, showcasing consistent growth across the UAE’s trade landscape rather than a mere surge in one segment.

DMCC’s initiative to create a dedicated vertical for lab-grown diamonds reflects the need for a unique economic framework in the industry. The establishment of this separate domain aims to distinguish lab-grown diamonds from traditional natural diamonds and colored stones. The decision highlights the unique characteristics of lab-grown diamonds, which are known for their scalable production, technical specifications, and industrial utility.

Future Opportunities Beyond Jewellery

As Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, articulated, lab-grown diamonds are no longer confined to artistic expressions or jewellery; they are poised for significant breakthroughs in various advanced applications. Industries such as semiconductors, medical devices, aerospace, and quantum technologies are all anticipated to benefit from the remarkable thermal, optical, and mechanical properties of lab-grown diamonds. These diverse uses indicate a future where lab-grown diamonds could transform multiple sectors, highlighting their versatility beyond mere adornments.

With the UAE trading an impressive 76.9 million carats of lab-grown diamonds by 2025—more than twice the volume from 2022—Dubai is strategically positioned to lead in shaping this dynamic sector. The Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical provides a necessary platform, enabling stakeholders—from producers to technology firms and buyers—to collaborate more effectively. This initiative aims to establish a transparent market infrastructure essential for sustainable sector growth.

Global Reach and Strategic Importance

The evolution of the lab-grown diamond industry can be attributed to three critical markets: China, India, and the United States. China excels in large-scale production and research and development, while India is renowned for its innovation in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology and manufacturing. Meanwhile, the U.S. remains the leading consumer of diamonds, pioneering growth technologies in the sector. Additionally, countries like Japan, Israel, and the UK play significant roles in research and trade.

Apart from their aesthetic appeal in jewelry, lab-grown diamonds are on the verge of revolutionizing multiple industries due to their unique properties. The Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical aims to connect regional and global players, enhancing Dubai’s position within the global diamond trade network. This initiative is set to complement DMCC’s existing activities focused on natural diamonds and colored stones, further solidifying the UAE’s stature as a central hub in the diamond trade landscape.

In 2025, the UAE achieved a record diamond trade surpassing $41.7 billion, driven by impressive growth in both synthetic and industrial diamond sectors. The establishment of the Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical marks a significant step towards consolidating Dubai’s leadership in this burgeoning market, paving the way for an integrated future of diamond trade.
