Assistive Tech Expo to Feature New Regional Innovations

Dubai is set to host the 8th AccessAbilities Expo (AAE 2026) from October 19 to 21 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Under the theme “Integrating Communities… Enabling Lives,” this event aims to showcase groundbreaking assistive technologies and inclusive innovations. It reaffirms its role as the largest gathering centered on People of Determination in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

Growth of the Assistive Technology Market

The global market for assistive technology is on track to expand significantly, with projections indicating a rise from USD 30.5 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 65.2 billion by 2034. This growth includes an anticipated market value of USD 5 billion specifically within the MENA region. Such advancements reflect a growing demand for solutions that enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, a key figure in Dubai’s aviation and tourism sectors, emphasized that the Expo has grown to become a pivotal event in the region, focusing on accessibility and community inclusion. This exhibition is crucial for fostering collaboration among multiple stakeholders, including government representatives, healthcare providers, and private sector innovators. By creating an environment for the exchange of knowledge and innovative solutions, the AccessAbilities Expo aims to improve the living standards of People of Determination.

Community and Accessibility Initiatives

Sheikh Ahmed also stated that as Dubai continues to position itself as a global leader in accessibility and inclusive development, events like the AccessAbilities Expo play a critical role. They support the UAE’s commitment to empowering People of Determination and promote their active participation in society. Such initiatives reflect a broader commitment to ensure that everyone has access to opportunities that enhance their independence.

Ghassan Suleiman, CEO of Nadd Al Shiba PR & Event Management, which organizes the Expo, shared his insights on the importance of assistive technologies. He noted that while advancements in technology have improved the lives of many, challenges still persist in terms of availability and adoption in various locations worldwide. The demand for assistive devices is rapidly increasing; meanwhile, new technologies provide unprecedented opportunities for learning, employment, and social engagement.

Innovations Showcased at the Expo

The exhibition will feature cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered smart glasses that can describe the environment, read text aloud, and offer voice-guided navigation for individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, the event will showcase innovative solutions such as real-time speech recognition systems, autonomous mobility aids, and advanced prosthetic limbs.

According to the World Health Organization, almost 90% of individuals with disabilities globally lack access to necessary assistive technologies, often due to high costs or insufficient availability. A report on assistive technology revealed that only 3% of those in need have access to essential devices like smart wheelchairs, hearing aids, and adaptive bicycles. The AccessAbilities Expo aims to fill this gap, promoting initiatives that foster accessibility, inclusion, and independent living for People of Determination.

In summary, the AccessAbilities Expo 2026 serves as a milestone event showcasing advancements in assistive technology, reinforcing the commitment to creating a more inclusive society for everyone, especially People of Determination.
