Emirates launches third daily A350 flight from Dubai to Cape Town.
Emirates has recently announced the launch of a third daily flight connecting Dubai (DXB) with Cape Town International Airport (CPT), effective July 1. This introduction marks the airline’s first deployment of the Airbus A350-900 on South African routes, signifying a new chapter in its service offerings for this market.
Enhancing Passenger Experience with the Airbus A350-900
The Airbus A350-900 is a cutting-edge addition to Emirates’ fleet, featuring state-of-the-art cabin designs and an innovative entertainment system. These aircraft are engineered for fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, underscoring Emirates’ commitment to sustainability. Among its outstanding features, the A350 includes a Premium Economy cabin, which has been well-received by passengers in South Africa since its introduction in September 2025. This enhanced class aims to elevate travel comfort while remaining cost-effective, thereby catering to a diverse range of travelers.
Boosting Connectivity for South African Travelers
According to Afzal Parambil, Emirates’ Regional Director for Southern Africa, Cape Town has consistently ranked as one of the most sought-after destinations within the airline’s African network. The addition of this new flight route demonstrates Emirates’ deep confidence in the South African market, providing travelers with improved connectivity. It opens the door for seamless access to a plethora of global destinations through Emirates’ expansive network in Dubai. As a result, South African passengers can now more efficiently connect to multiple long-haul destinations across West Asia, Australasia, and the Far East.
Strategic Collaboration for Tourism Growth
The launch of this new flight frequency is bolstered by a partnership established in April 2026 between Emirates and Wesgro, Cape Town’s official tourism and investment promotion agency. Their collaboration aims to draw more visitors from key markets including the Gulf region, the Far East, and India, highlighting both organizations’ commitment to boosting tourism and economic development in Cape Town.
Expansion Plans in South Africa
Emirates’ growth strategy in South Africa is further underscored by its decision to reinstate a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg, also effective July 1, 2026. This move will allow Emirates to offer an impressive 56 weekly flights between Dubai and three major South African airports. Two of these flights will be operated by the modern Airbus A380, affirming the airline’s commitment to delivering a premium travel experience.
Moreover, Cape Town is experiencing a broader surge in air connectivity. On July 2, LATAM Airlines introduced the first direct flight from Cape Town to São Paulo (Guarulhos), rolling out three weekly flights—two months ahead of the initial schedule. This enhancement, paired with Emirates’ expanded services, positions Cape Town as an emerging travel hub in the South Atlantic region, further fostering international tourism and commerce.
In summary, Emirates is not just increasing its flight offerings but is also setting the stage for significant economic and travel improvements in South Africa. With the integration of advanced aircraft and strategic partnerships, the airline is poised to enhance passenger experiences while contributing to the growth of the South African tourism sector.
