Dubai Introduces Education Leadership Network for Future Jobs and Innovation

Dubai is making significant strides by uniting leaders from higher education, government, and critical industries to ensure that academic institutions align closely with labor market demands. This initiative aims not only to enhance the educational framework in Dubai but also to stimulate economic growth and workforce development in the region.

Establishment of the Higher Education Leadership Network

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), together with Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, has recently unveiled the founding committee and co-chairs of the Higher Education Leadership Network (HELN). Dr. Saeed Mubarak Kharbash, CEO of Policies, Research and Programmes at KHDA, and Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Senior Vice President at Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, have been appointed as co-chairs of this new endeavor.

HELN was conceived in 2025 with the objective of merging insights from higher education and the business sector. It seeks to foster discussions around workforce requirements, skill enhancement, innovation, and research strategies. The committee comprises stakeholders from various sectors—including technology, healthcare, aviation, and logistics—creating a multifaceted representation of Dubai’s economy. This initiative is in alignment with broader national policies meant to fortify collaboration between higher education and industrial sectors.

Creating Synergy between Academia and Industry

Dr. Kharbash believes that the network will play a pivotal role in strengthening relationships between universities, corporations, and government entities. “By structuring discussions among key stakeholders, we can ensure educational outcomes are closely aligned with the skills and innovations required for Dubai’s future,” he stated. Janahi emphasized that close cooperation among academia, industry, and government is crucial for establishing Dubai as an international education hub. The network is designed to facilitate dialogues and partnerships while bolstering research initiatives, innovation, and skill development.

During its inaugural year, HELN will concentrate on fostering collaboration among universities, businesses, and government organizations, while also championing research and innovation initiatives. This strategic approach aims to address the evolving needs of emerging industries and align educational programs with real-world applications.

Focus Areas of the HELN

HELN will concentrate on four critical domains: education and upskilling, entrepreneurship and innovation, future economies, and research and development. The network is tasked with examining how higher education can adapt to meet the demands of new industries and shifting workforce requirements. By prioritizing practical applications, HELN will support research that has direct implications in various fields.

The founding committee boasts a diverse group of 13 influential leaders from different sectors. Notable members include:

  • Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Senior Vice President of Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park
  • Dr. Saeed Mubarak Kharbash, CEO of Policies, Research and Programmes at KHDA
  • Eng. Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation & the Future at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority
  • Dr. Hanan Al Suwaidi, Provost at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • Marwan Al Jassmi, Executive Vice President of People & Sustainability at DP World GCC

In addition to these leaders, experts from various industries, including finance and healthcare, are included in the committee, providing a comprehensive perspective on the intersection of education and economic growth in Dubai.

By prioritizing collaboration across sectors, the HELN serves as a vital initiative that not only benefits higher education but also ensures the continued development of an adaptable and skilled workforce to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving job market.
