Ahmed bin Saeed presides over RIT Dubai graduation for 394 students.
Dubai is making strides toward a knowledge-driven economy, reflected in the recent graduation of its 15th cohort at the Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai (RIT Dubai). This milestone marks not only the achievements of 394 graduates across 16 diverse programmes but also the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence in a rapidly evolving landscape.
A Vision for the Future
The graduation ceremony, hosted by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum at the Dubai World Trade Centre, served as a significant indicator of Dubai’s ambition to advance its educational framework. His Highness emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone in realizing the UAE’s long-term vision. He stated, “The graduation of this new cohort signals significant progress in nurturing talent capable of adapting to future challenges and contributing actively to a knowledge-based economy.”
In this speech, Sheikh Ahmed reinforced the notion that advanced education is crucial for Dubai’s competitiveness in an increasingly global marketplace. He described the role of RIT Dubai as pivotal in preparing a generation ready to transform knowledge into actionable economic and social outcomes. His confidence in the graduates underscored their potential to contribute to Dubai’s ascent as a formidable leader on the global stage.
Strengthening an Integrated Economic Ecosystem
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), highlighted the partnership between DIEZ and RIT Dubai as a strategic move toward building a comprehensive economic ecosystem. This collaboration enhances Dubai Silicon Oasis, identified as a specialized hub for knowledge, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Al Zarooni asserted that RIT Dubai plays a crucial role in preparing highly skilled professionals who are capable of navigating digital transformations, enhancing productivity across key sectors.
As industries in Dubai continue to evolve, the role of educational institutions becomes increasingly significant. The comprehensive education received at RIT Dubai equips graduates with the expertise necessary for leading in innovative fields, positioning the university as a vital contributor to the region’s economic development.
Diverse Academic Offerings for Future Industries
The graduating class represented a diverse selection of disciplines tailored for tomorrow’s industries. Graduates completed nine bachelor’s programmes in fields such as engineering, marketing, finance, cybersecurity, computing, and notably, psychology—the first cohort to graduate in this specialization. Additionally, seven master’s programmes focused on areas like data analytics and smart cities reflect the university’s commitment to aligning its offerings with future market demands.
RIT Dubai President Dr. Yousef Al Assaf noted that the university continues to adapt its academic offerings based on the evolving labor market. The initiative to introduce new programmes, including undergraduate degrees in Management Information Systems and micro-master’s courses in Health Informatics, exemplifies this responsiveness to current and future educational needs.
Commitment to Innovation and Growth
Established in 2010, RIT Dubai has seen the graduation of over 2,490 students, marking its substantial impact on the UAE’s talent pipeline and higher education ecosystem. The university’s ongoing commitment to innovation is evident in its introduction of dual-degree programmes, enabling students to earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a more condensed timeframe.
Operating within Dubai Silicon Oasis, RIT Dubai stands as an extension of the esteemed Rochester Institute of Technology, offering accredited American programmes aimed at nurturing a workforce prepared for a dynamic and sustainable knowledge economy. By cultivating academic partnerships and continuously developing new educational pathways, RIT Dubai plays an essential role in supporting Dubai’s vision for a diversified and innovation-driven future.
