Emirates Premium Economy: Edinburgh to Dubai – The Business Traveler’s Journal
The Flight
In January 2025, Emirates launched its Premium Economy section on the Edinburgh to Dubai route using an Airbus A350-900. This cabin features 21 seats arranged in a 2-3-2 layout. The cream leather seats are equipped with footrests and can recline up to eight inches, making them particularly comfortable for overnight flights that depart from Edinburgh at 8:55 PM.
The Check-In
Online check-in with Emirates opens 48 hours before departure. I managed to check in 36 hours prior to my flight using my smartphone, and the process was simple, asking for only a few additional details beyond what I’d already provided. After that, I took a tram from St Andrew Square, near Waverley Station, to Edinburgh Airport. The picturesque journey lasted about 35 minutes, and I arrived right at the terminal.
I was slightly anxious about my connecting flight to Singapore due to having two separate tickets, fearing I might need to collect my baggage in Dubai. However, the staff at the baggage drop alleviated my concerns by checking my suitcase all the way through to Singapore.
The Boarding
Premium Economy passengers do not have lounge access, so I spent time at a bar watching a Premier League match before boarding began. The boarding gate was conveniently located just a short distance away. The announcements were clear, and I was prioritized for boarding as a Premium Economy traveler. Upon reaching the gate, I received a warm and professional welcome.
The boarding went smoothly, and I quickly settled into my seat. The aircraft was ready for an on-time departure.
The Seat
I occupied aisle seat 16F for the seven-hour, ten-minute flight to Dubai. The cabin had a gentle pinkish-golden glow, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The wide armrest allowed both my neighbor and me to use it comfortably. The tray table was spacious enough for my laptop, making it easy to get some work done before I opted for a nap.
The seat’s footrest and recline feature, which allowed for an eight-inch recline, contributed to a comfortable overnight experience, while the pitch of 40 inches provided ample legroom.
The Service
Upon settling in, a crew member named Veronica greeted me with a drink selection, and her attentive service continued throughout the flight. I enjoyed a glass of refreshing mint lemon before dinner. I chose fish pie for my meal, served about an hour into the flight, and it impressed me with its delightful flavors, accompanied by warm focaccia bread and a glass of red wine. The Premium Economy crew demonstrated professionalism and grace, making interactions enjoyable.
After a refreshing nap, I explored the extensive inflight entertainment on the 4K seatback screen, opting to watch an episode of The Assassin. I connected my own Bose headphones via Bluetooth for an enhanced experience. For breakfast, I was served a selection of chopped fruit, yogurt, and a warm croissant with jam, which fueled me for my onward journey to Singapore.
The Verdict
I had plenty of room to relax during my flight to Dubai, and the checked baggage allowance of up to 35 kg offered great flexibility. Overall, the journey was positive, and I would not hesitate to fly in Premium Economy again. Return flights from Edinburgh to Dubai in this class are priced around £1,615.
