Dubai Police Employ Smart Tech to Tackle Noisy Vehicles
Dubai Police have ramped up their efforts to enhance road safety by imposing 7,735 traffic fines and impounding 1,630 vehicles for excessive noise and unauthorized modifications during the initial nine months of 2026. These actions come as part of a comprehensive initiative aimed at safeguarding residents from disruptive driving behaviors that can pose risks on the roads.
Traffic Violations and Enforcement Actions
The General Department of Traffic reported a total of 2,045 violations linked to excessive noise levels, resulting in the impoundment of 333 vehicles. Additionally, an alarming 5,690 violations involved unauthorized modifications to vehicle engines or chassis, which led to 1,297 vehicle impoundments from January through September. This enforcement strategy primarily targets motorists whose vehicles exceed noise regulations or have been altered in ways that contravene traffic laws. In response to the rising concerns over road safety, Dubai Police are increasing inspections and monitoring in regions frequently reporting such violations.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, head of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that excess noise from cars and motorcycles, especially those fitted with modified engines or exhaust systems, remains a prevalent concern for communities. He pointed out that loud vehicles can disrupt residents, particularly during nighttime, while sudden bursts of noise can distract drivers, heightening the potential for accidents.
Legal Implications for Modifications and Noise
According to UAE traffic regulations, operating a vehicle that generates excessive noise incurs a hefty fine of Dh2,000 and attracts 12 black points on the driver’s record. Simultaneously, unauthorized alterations to a vehicle’s engine or chassis can lead to a Dh1,000 fine, also accompanied by 12 black points and a possible 30-day vehicle impoundment. Brigadier bin Suwaidan mentioned that additional penalties might be imposed depending on the severity of the infringement, as outlined in Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment.
The police have made it clear that all vehicles must comply with approved specifications. Modifications that violate regulations could result in legal consequences. The ongoing initiatives are designed to counteract behavior that jeopardizes road safety or detracts from residents’ quality of life.
Smart Technology Integration for Noise Detection
To further strengthen enforcement, Dubai Police are planning to expand their deployment of noise detection devices across various roads and locations known for frequent violations. This enhanced technology is intended to assist officers in identifying the sources of excessive noise and to improve monitoring capabilities effectively. Brigadier bin Suwaidan noted that expanding the use of smart technology underscores the police’s commitment to fostering road safety and ensuring the wellbeing of the community.
Alongside enforcement measures, the authorities are actively promoting awareness initiatives aimed at encouraging motorists to adhere to traffic laws and refrain from practices that disturb the peace. Vehicle owners, particularly younger drivers, have been urged to avoid illegal modifications and consider the broader impact of their driving behavior on other road users and nearby residents.
Fostering Community Awareness and Safety
Brigadier bin Suwaidan reported that an increase in enforcement levels and growing public awareness have recently contributed to a noticeable reduction in instances of excessive vehicle noise. The police plan to maintain and amplify monitoring measures in conjunction with awareness campaigns to sustain this positive trend.
Furthermore, the Dubai Police encourage both motorists and community members to utilize the Aman Roads Platform at www.amanroads.gov.ae. This resource offers practical guidance and educational materials related to traffic safety. The platform is focused on elevating awareness around dangerous driving behaviors, promoting compliance with traffic laws, and aiding in the prevention of accidents, ultimately protecting lives and property throughout the emirate.
