Dubai Future Foundation outlines deployment of advanced tech in the UAE.
The “Fourth Industrial Revolution in the UAE: 100 Use Cases” report, recently launched by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and the UAE Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (UAE C4IR), highlights transformative applications of advanced technologies across various sectors. This report documents 100 real-world examples that showcase the significant impact of innovation in the UAE’s economy, public services, and academia.
Transformative Innovations Across Sectors
The report outlines how the UAE’s shift towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution is not merely a theoretical concept; it has become a practical reality. At Emirates Global Aluminium, over 100 artificial intelligence and data initiatives have collectively generated a financial benefit of USD 123 million since 2021. The World Economic Forum even recognized the Al Taweelah smelter as a Global Lighthouse in January 2025, marking it as the first industrial establishment in the UAE to gain such an accolade. Additionally, at ADNOC Gas, wall-climbing robots from Gecko Robotics enhance safety and effectiveness in inspecting pressure vessels by almost doubling the inspected surface area compared to traditional methods.
Moreover, Dubai Police are actively implementing innovative technologies such as driverless patrol vehicles developed by Micropolis Robotics, which contribute to a national strategy of autonomous law enforcement. In healthcare, robotic surgical systems are becoming standard in hospitals throughout Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, with institutions like the American Hospital Dubai having conducted over 4,000 robotic procedures.
Industry Collaboration and Outcome Scenarios
The 100 documented use cases span nine sectors: smart cities, manufacturing, energy, logistics, healthcare, agritech, fintech, space, and creative industries. These examples demonstrate the collaborative efforts among government agencies, industry leaders, researchers, and educational institutions. Notably, more than 60 use cases were developed through public-private partnerships, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
HE. Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of DFF, emphasized that the essence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution resides in the ability to convert technology into meaningful economic and social benefits. The report serves as a powerful tool illustrating how various stakeholders can effectively work together to move technological applications from concept to substantial real-world impact.
Criteria for Evaluating Use Cases
This comprehensive report employs six evaluation criteria for the use cases: relevance to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, significance for the UAE, maturity, measurable impact, replicability, and responsible implementation. It goes beyond just listing technologies to articulate why each application matters, how it functions, its achievements thus far, and potential future developments.
It also identifies 16 technologies at the forefront of innovation, including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and robotics, noting that the most impactful results often arise when multiple technologies converge to solve specific operational challenges.
A Resource for Future Endeavors
Designed as a resource for government officials, businesses, regulators, and researchers, the report aims to provide viable models for others to learn from and adapt. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, it showcases the various combinations of policies, infrastructure, partnerships, skills, and institutional capacities essential for successful technology deployment and its resulting outcomes.
This report is the culmination of collective efforts made by the UAE C4IR since its inception in April 2019 as the first partner center under the World Economic Forum’s global Fourth Industrial Revolution initiative. Hosted by the Dubai Future Foundation, the UAE C4IR is a collaborative effort aimed at establishing responsible technology implementation frameworks in partnership with government bodies and research institutions.
