Flydubai Launches Dubai-Pokhara Flights Starting September 23
Flydubai, the Dubai-based airline owned by the UAE government, is set to launch direct flights between Dubai and Pokhara starting September 23. This new route promises to enhance connectivity for travelers looking to explore one of Nepal’s most beloved tourist destinations.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft Information
According to Flydubai’s published schedule, the inaugural flight will land at Pokhara International Airport (PIA) at 6:15 PM. After boarding, the aircraft is scheduled to depart for Dubai at 7:15 PM. Binod Singh Rawat, the information officer at Tribhuvan International Airport, disclosed that the airline will operate either Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft on this route. The A319 can carry approximately 140 to 150 passengers, while the A320 can accommodate 160 to 180. Flydubai is expected to switch between these two aircraft models based on the demand for passenger seats.
Significance of the Inaugural Flight
The inaugural flight is anticipated to attract a considerable number of passengers, carrying both travelers and cargo back to Dubai. Rawat emphasized the commercial potential of this new route, noting that it will help facilitate international connectivity for numerous passengers. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal granted Flydubai the green light to operate on this route last May, an essential step in fostering tourism and trade. Notably, tickets from Pokhara are expected to be up to Rs 5,000 cheaper compared to flights from Kathmandu, making it an appealing option for travelers.
Partnerships and Wider Benefits
Flydubai’s new service will operate under a strategic codeshare agreement with Emirates Airlines. This arrangement allows passengers traveling from Pokhara to reach a variety of international destinations, including cities in Australia, Europe, and North America, with the convenience of booking a single ticket. Passengers will benefit significantly from this collaboration, making it easier for them to explore various international locales.
Future of Pokhara International Airport
The initiative aligns with the government’s plans to attract international airlines to Pokhara International Airport. In its fiscal year 2026/27 policy announcement, the government expressed a commitment to enhancing Pokhara’s global connectivity. After conducting a detailed feasibility study in May on the viability of direct flights, Flydubai received the necessary approvals to commence operations. Despite a substantial investment of around Rs 22 billion in PIA’s infrastructure, international flight services have remained limited since its opening on January 1, 2023. Hence, the introduction of Flydubai flights marks a significant milestone in the airport’s operational history.
In conclusion, Flydubai’s new flights from Dubai to Pokhara signify a pivotal development in enhancing international travel options for both residents and tourists. As the airline embarks on this journey, it brings with it the promise of greater accessibility and economic growth for the region.
