dnata enhances cargo center for improved visibility in Dubai
Introduction to dnata’s Cargo Integrated Command Centre
Ground handler dnata has transformed its Dubai cargo operation by developing the Cargo Integrated Command Centre (CICC). This cutting-edge facility offers nearly real-time insight into cargo operations across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with updates as frequent as every 10 seconds.
Comprehensive Overview of Cargo Operations
Situated at the core of dnata’s hubs—Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (DWC)—the CICC enables teams to access a centralized overview of operations. This centralized system empowers staff to anticipate needs, allocate resources, and quickly adapt to any changes that may arise in operational conditions.
In the financial year of 2025-26, dnata’s operations at DXB and DWC managed over one million tonnes of cargo. Furthermore, the logistics involved included approximately 189,000 flight movements and 46,000 truck movements, highlighting the sheer volume and complexity of operations managed by the CICC.
Real-Time Data and Enhanced Coordination
The heart of the CICC is an internally crafted operational dashboard that aggregates vital information and refreshes every 10 seconds. This technological marvel draws from dnata’s main cargo management system, known as One Cargo, which provides snapshots of ongoing activities and transactions in real time. Additionally, the Appointment and Dock Management (ADM) system tracks truck movements at both airports, enhancing operational coordination.
Information from Calogi, dnata’s cargo community platform, is also utilized, allowing teams to manage landside activities and ancillary services efficiently, including last-mile delivery. This combination of systems empowers the CICC team to monitor the entire cargo network, spot potential bottlenecks, and facilitate coordinated teamwork across various facilities.
Strategic Decision-Making and Future Growth Potential
With a thorough understanding of cargo movements, teams at the CICC can effectively make swift and informed decisions regarding workload management, capacity, and resource allocation. This efficiency is crucial for ensuring that cargo flows smoothly through dnata’s facilities while maintaining a consistently high service quality for both airline and freight forwarding clients.
Designed with scalability in mind, the CICC provides a foundation that can adapt to dnata’s expanding operations and increasingly complex logistical requirements across the UAE. Nabil Sultan Al Murr, group chief executive of dnata, emphasized that the cargo operations involve a multitude of interconnected activities daily. Therefore, achieving operational visibility is key to sustaining performance at a large scale.
Investments in Technology and Innovations
The establishment of the CICC exemplifies dnata’s ongoing investment in advanced technology and digitalization in its Dubai cargo operations. Recent technological advancements include the introduction of autonomous drones for warehouse inventory, achieving over 99% accuracy in tracking shipments. Another significant innovation is the centralized cargo screening control room, created in collaboration with Dubai Police, which allows for remote operation and monitoring of six X-ray screening machines at DXB.
This continuous evolution in dnata’s infrastructure and operational model plays a pivotal role in reinforcing Dubai’s status as a leading global logistics hub. The integration of personnel, technology, and operational data into a cohesive framework provides a robust platform for managing the complexities of the future, supporting both current demands and anticipated growth.
