Pet Owner Spends Dh350,000 on Apartment in Palm Jumeirah

Dr. Katherine Iscoe, a 48-year-old motivational speaker from Canada, moved to Dubai a little over a year ago. Settled in a two-bedroom apartment on The Palm Jumeirah with her beloved chihuahuas, Eszie and Eddie, she has discovered a strong sense of community in the UAE. Dr. Iscoe is now considering making Dubai her permanent home.

Living the Dubai Lifestyle

Dr. Iscoe’s apartment, located within the Shoreline complex, was newly renovated upon her arrival. The layout is spacious, featuring two bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, alongside a maid’s room and an additional powder room. Dr. Iscoe pays an annual rent of Dh350,000 ($95,300), reflecting the premium pricing of the area. Despite the costs, she believes the lifestyle and community it offers are worth every dirham.

The modern aesthetics of the apartment are complemented by abundant natural light, especially in the open-plan kitchen and living area, which she describes as one of her favorite spaces. Dr. Iscoe has positioned her workspace near the balcony, allowing her to enjoy glimpses of the beach while working. The balcony, with its waterfront view, enhances her living experience, providing a serene escape for both her and her dogs.

Finding Community in a New Home

Since moving to Dubai in June 2025, Dr. Iscoe has embraced her new environment wholeheartedly. After spending a couple of months in Avani serviced apartments to acclimatize, she transitioned to her current home in August, marking one year in the UAE, a milestone she holds dear. The sense of community she found in The Palm was a significant factor in her decision. Despite exploring various options, she felt an immediate connection when she arrived.

As a dog parent, she appreciates the numerous pet-friendly parks and amenities that invite outdoor socialization for her pets. She reflects on the ease of life in Dubai, especially during the hot summer months when air-conditioned walks through the Golden Mile are a blessing. The friendships she has cultivated in the area made settling in easier, transforming her apartment into a cozy home.

Future Plans and Aspirations

While she has thoroughly enjoyed life on The Palm, Dr. Iscoe is contemplating a move to a different community, such as The Greens, to further explore what Dubai has to offer. She values the flexibility renting provides, allowing her to experience various neighborhoods until she finds one that feels like home. With a substantial shoe collection still in storage back in Australia, she has managed to find room for about 30 pairs in Dubai, making certain to reserve a dedicated space for them.

Dr. Iscoe envisions laying down roots in Dubai eventually, as she is captivated by the vibrancy of the city. With a strong focus on finding a property that offers ample green space and community spirit, she dreams of a future where her dogs feel equally at home.

By sharing her journey, Dr. Iscoe not only highlights the diverse lifestyle opportunities available in Dubai but also emphasizes the importance of community, connection, and flexibility when relocating to a new country. Her story serves as an inspiration for others looking to embrace new experiences while remaining true to their unique identities.
