The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) has unveiled its comprehensive marine traffic management strategy for New Year’s Eve 2026. This initiative is designed to boost maritime safety and facilitate efficient navigation during one of the busiest celebration periods of the year.

Overview of the Marine Traffic Management Plan

The marine traffic management plan will be in effect from 10 PM on December 31, 2025, until 2 AM on January 1, 2026. It specifically targets high-traffic marine zones, including Dubai Marina, Dubai Harbour, and Palm Jumeirah. Key actions include implementing a one-way navigation system before and after midnight, temporarily suspending navigation during peak times, and closing marine traffic beneath the Palm Jumeirah bridges throughout the operational hours.

Safety Measures and Regulations

To further reduce congestion and risk of accidents, vessels will be categorized by size, with specific routes and time slots assigned for each category. This targeted approach aims to enhance safety and streamline maritime operations during the festivities. Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of DMA, emphasized the Authority’s dedication to upholding high maritime safety standards and ensuring navigation efficiency, which aligns with Dubai’s reputation as a global event destination.

Monitoring and Compliance

Continuous monitoring will be conducted by patrol teams in collaboration with relevant authorities. Immediate legal repercussions will be enforced against any violators. The management plan also includes stringent regulations on anchoring, drifting, and mooring areas, ensuring compliance with international conventions designed to prevent maritime collisions. DMA insists that all vessel owners, maritime agents, marinas, yacht clubs, and recreational boat operators adhere to the established protocols to guarantee a secure and organized maritime environment during the celebrations.

Weather Advisory and Coordination Efforts

In addition to the safety protocols, the DMA advises all marine users to keep a close watch on weather conditions, as fluctuating conditions are anticipated for New Year’s Eve. To prepare effectively, the DMA conducted a coordination workshop with key partners and marina operators to assess operational readiness. The discussions included vessel movement schedules, patrol strategies, anchoring regulations, emergency procedures, and adherence to compliance mechanisms, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing marine traffic during the New Year 2026 celebrations.

By taking these proactive measures, the Dubai Maritime Authority reaffirms its commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone participating in the New Year’s festivities on the water.
