A former Newark resident now living in Dubai is encouraging people with family in the Middle East to disregard the circulating rumors regarding the country amid ongoing airstrikes. The situation has escalated recently, causing widespread concern among those with loved ones in the region.

Over the weekend, Israel and the United States initiated military actions against Iran in a campaign named Epic Fury. This operation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump expressed alarm over Iran’s efforts to revive its nuclear program and develop long-range missiles that pose a threat to European allies and U.S. military personnel stationed abroad. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks on various Gulf states harboring U.S. forces, including Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

As a result of these heightened tensions, significant disruptions have occurred in air travel. Nearly half of the flights anticipated to leave London Heathrow for destinations in the Middle East were canceled on Sunday, impacting around 43% of scheduled departures. After a relatively quiet night from Sunday to Monday, they heard a few explosions in the morning, although these were not as overwhelming as those from the preceding days.

Towndrow recounted that the explosions began late Saturday evening and continued into Sunday, estimating around 20 incidents during that time. His son even witnessed an interception in the sky near their villa, leading to a visible trail of smoke, although it was difficult to determine the distance from their balcony. Authorities have advised residents to “shelter in place” and remain indoors for the next few days as they monitor the ongoing developments.
