Fresh Initiatives Enrich Urban Living Experience

Dubai is on the forefront of enhancing community life with the recent announcement of a new partnership focused on the development of Hewi Al Barsha and Hewi Muhaisnah as part of the expansive ‘Hewi Dubai’ initiative. This agreement was formalized in the presence of notable figures, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Crown Prince, and other key stakeholders, marking a significant step toward fostering vibrant neighborhoods.

Strengthening Community Infrastructure

The collaborative effort brings together Dubai Municipality, the General Construction Company, and Binghatti, all dedicated to creating inclusive public spaces that foster social interaction and embody the local culture. This initiative aligns with the overarching goal of Dubai Municipality to prioritize quality of life by embedding communal areas at the core of urban development strategies. By focusing on neighborhood engagement, the project aims to enhance residents’ overall well-being.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, the Director General of Dubai Municipality, along with other executives, signed the agreement, emphasizing the importance of partnerships that bridge public and private sectors in crafting community-centric spaces. The initiative is open to further collaborations, as the Municipality envisions expanding the Hewi Dubai model to other regions across the emirate.

A Fresh Perspective on Neighborhood Design

Building upon the successful launch of the first phase in Nad Al Sheba 4, this new partnership aims to modernize the classical concept of the hewi, reimagining it as a contemporary neighborhood courtyard rooted in Emirati culture. Marwan bin Ghalita articulated that the vision is to redefine local gathering spots and shared facilities, emphasizing inclusivity and community connection. The designed spaces are intended to reinforce social ties while enhancing the quality of life for residents, taking into consideration both international design standards and local customs.

Revitalizing Traditional Values

Mohammed Binghatti, the Chairman of Binghatti, expressed pride in supporting a project that harmonizes modern living with traditional Emirati principles. The Hewi Dubai locations are crafted to unite neighbors while nurturing a shared sense of identity and belonging. The focus extends beyond mere architecture; it aims to create holistic communities where individuals feel at ease and connected.

Design Inspired by Heritage

The Hewi Dubai initiative draws from the rich heritage of the traditional fareej, adapting its essence for modern requirements. Essential elements include the Dajja—a semi-open gathering space near mosques ideal for contemplation—and the Saha, a versatile venue for meetings, celebrations, and community events, also designed as a recreational space for children. These features are not only functional but also intent on preserving the spirit of community life amid contemporary living demands.

Through this innovative approach, Hewi Dubai promises to breathe life into neighborhood experiences, ensuring they cater to the dynamic needs of today’s residents while immortalizing the cherished values of the fareej in daily interactions.
