Sheikh Hamdan: Dubai Customs vital for economic protection

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, emphasized the need for Dubai Customs to evolve into a more sophisticated and adaptable entity in the coming phase. He indicated that this evolution should incorporate state-of-the-art technology and refined processes, aiming to bolster supply chains, facilitate smoother trading operations, and enhance the confidence of investors in the region.

His remarks followed a visit he made to the headquarters of Dubai Customs, where he encouraged the authority to persist in striving for excellence on a global scale. As the primary safeguard for the local economy, Sheikh Hamdan stressed the importance of ongoing investment in the capabilities of Dubai Customs, which are vital for maintaining efficiency, precision, and creativity in service delivery.

In his dual role as the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Defence, Sheikh Hamdan praised the customs authority’s existing innovative solutions and advanced systems. He highlighted its capacity to handle millions of transactions each year, facilitating trade that amounts to hundreds of billions of dirhams. He commended the expertise of the national workforce, reflecting the authority’s strides toward achieving global prominence.

In 2025, Dubai Customs undertook several digital initiatives, including the launch of the ‘Al-Munasiq 2.0’ platform. This revolutionary platform has dramatically shortened the process of goods classification from one day to merely two seconds, showcasing an impressive adoption rate of 86 percent and usage across 117 countries.

As Dubai Customs continues to evolve, it aims to set internationally recognized standards while ensuring its operations remain pivotal in the region’s economic landscape. Sheikh Hamdan’s vision aligns with the broader aspirations of the UAE to maintain its status as a global trade hub, leveraging innovation and technology to push boundaries and achieve remarkable efficiencies in customs operations.
