From a Minimal Wage to UAE Entrepreneur

Evertse’s remarkable journey in the United Arab Emirates began nearly twenty years ago when she arrived at the age of 19, freshly graduated and eager for broader horizons. Like many new expatriates, she started from humble beginnings, accepting a position as a hotel receptionist with a monthly salary of Dh1,500. With aspirations of building a prosperous future for herself, she dedicated herself to hard work and resilience.

Taking the Entrepreneurial Leap Amidst Challenges

After spending years in the corporate sector, Evertse made the bold decision to venture into entrepreneurship. In 2020, she launched her restaurant, filled with ambition and hope. Unfortunately, her new business faced immediate challenges as the global pandemic disrupted operations across various sectors. Evertse described this period as a major test, pushing her emotionally, mentally, and financially. Despite the hardships, she persevered, expanding her business from a single location in Sharjah to additional outlets in Dubai.

Paving the Way for Inclusivity in the Workplace

Inclusivity has become a fundamental aspect of Evertse’s business practices. In April, she took an inspiring step by hiring Chesko Barrios, an individual on the autism spectrum, as part of her restaurant team. This decision reflects her commitment to creating job opportunities for people of determination, demonstrating that a diverse workforce enriches the workplace environment while also contributing to society. Evertse believes in the value of varied perspectives and abilities, which can foster innovation and growth within her company.

Innovating Healthier Beverage Options Inspired by Motherhood

In addition to her restaurant operations, Evertse recently launched “Drippy,” a healthier soda alternative tailored for children, drawing inspiration from her experiences as a mother. The idea struck her during a cycling outing in Al Qudra, where she considered the need for more nutritious beverage choices for her sons. Her vision was to craft a drink that contains less sugar, no caffeine, and additional vitamin C, promoting healthier habits among kids. Evertse acknowledges that the path to innovation is often riddled with uncertainty, delays, and setbacks, but she has learned that waiting for the “perfect moment” can prevent one from ever starting.

Evertse’s story serves as a powerful testament to resilience, adaptability, and commitment to inclusivity. From her beginnings as a receptionist to becoming a successful entrepreneur, she showcases how determination can pave the way for success. Her endeavors in creating a healthier drink for children and promoting employment for individuals with unique abilities demonstrate her dedication not only to business growth but also to making a positive impact on her community.

Through her journey, Evertse encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace challenges and persevere in pursuit of their dreams.
