Uzbekistan is on the verge of significant connectivity enhancements with the introduction of new international flight routes connecting Termez to both Istanbul and Dubai. This pivotal development was announced during a meeting led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at fostering comprehensive growth in the Surkhandarya region.

At the meeting, it was underscored that a collaborative initiative with the Asian Development Bank, valued at $183 million, has been underway over the past two years. The project involves upgrading the 111-kilometer Baysun–Denov road, which is set to be transformed into a modern cement-concrete thoroughfare. Once completed, this enhancement is expected to double the cargo traffic capacity and dramatically reduce travel times from three hours to just 1.5 hours. President Mirziyoyev highlighted that a crucial 178-kilometer highway linking Uzbekistan with Afghanistan and Tajikistan has been neglected for nearly three decades. He has mandated officials to initiate reconstruction efforts within the next three months. The discussion also touched upon the current efficiency of the passenger trains on the Tashkent-Termez route, which presently take over 14 hours to complete the journey.
