Pakistan’s Consul General in Dubai Advocates Legal Remittance Methods
In a recent event in Dubai, Hussain Muhammad, the Consul General of Pakistan, emphasized the significance of utilizing formal banking channels for remittances to Pakistan. This initiative is designed to reinforce the country’s economy and ensure that the hard-earned income of expatriates is protected.
Importance of Formal Banking for Remittances
During an Iftar dinner held at Al Ghurair Workers Camp in Sonapur, which was co-hosted by the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Al Ansari Exchange in partnership with the Pakistani Consulate, Hussain Muhammad urged the community to leverage regulated financial institutions. He highlighted that this practice not only helps in bolstering Pakistan’s economy but also serves to safeguard the financial assets of overseas workers.
The initiative aimed to inform the Pakistani diaspora in Dubai about the advantages of sending money through official channels. Hussain Muhammad acknowledged the crucial role that remittances play in the nation’s economy and took the opportunity to connect with workers, assuring them that the government remains committed to supporting its citizens abroad. He extended Ramadan greetings and reiterated the consulate’s openness to helping those in need.
Recognizing the Contribution of Overseas Workers
The event saw a considerable turnout, with numerous Pakistani workers and community leaders present, including the Press Counsellor Muhammad Saleh and Community Welfare Attachés Junaid Murtaza and Imran Shahid. Rashid-ul-Islam, Business Lead at NBP, remarked on the rising importance of remittances to Pakistan’s economic landscape. He pointed out that the UAE is currently the second-largest contributor of remittances to Pakistan globally.
Furthermore, Rashid outlined promotional initiatives, such as the cash reward program offered by the NBP for customers who transfer funds directly into NBP accounts in Pakistan. These initiatives aim to encourage the practice of sending money through legitimate banking channels, which can potentially lead to fiscal benefits for both senders and recipients.
Celebrating Top Remitters
The evening culminated in the celebration of top remitters who were acknowledged for their consistent and substantial contributions to Pakistan’s economy. These individuals were presented with gifts and prizes, demonstrating the community’s appreciation for their efforts in supporting their homeland through remittances.
Through such gatherings, the Pakistani community in Dubai not only celebrated the spirit of Ramadan but also recognized the vital economic role played by overseas workers. By driving awareness around formal remittance channels, the government and financial institutions aim to ensure that the financial lifeblood of the country continues to flow securely and effectively from abroad.
The event marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the Pakistani government and its overseas community. By fostering an understanding of the benefits of formal banking for remittances, the efforts are poised to contribute positively to Pakistan’s economic stability and growth.
