Minister Participates in Dubai World Governments Summit
Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward is currently representing Bermuda at the 2026 World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This prestigious event runs from February 3-5, 2026, and attracts global leaders and experts focused on shaping the future of governance.
Global Governance Themes at the Summit
The World Governments Summit is renowned for its thought-provoking themes and discussions aimed at improving governance worldwide. This year, the central theme is “Shaping Future Governments,” alongside five key focuses: Global Governance and Effective Leadership, Societal Wellbeing and Capacity Building, Economic Prosperity and Emerging Opportunities, Urban Futures and Evolving Demographics, and Future Realities. These areas highlight the complexities modern governments face and encourage collaboration among nations to find sustainable solutions.
Minister Hayward actively engaged in the dialogue by participating in two significant panels. The first one, the Government Experience Exchange Forum, centered on “Future of Trade and Economy.” He contributed to a keynote session titled “Investing Smart for Resilient Economies,” which emphasized strategies for fostering smart investments and promoting long-term economic stability. This framework is particularly relevant for nations navigating post-pandemic economies and looking to enhance resilience against future adversities.
Panel Discussions with Global Leaders
In his discussions, Minister Hayward was joined by notable international leaders such as H.E. Sakari Puisto from Finland and H.E. Bilal Kayani from Pakistan. Together, they explored best practices in strengthening economic stability across different regions. The panel was moderated by Dr. Rawa Harfoushi, an Economic Advisor to the Lebanese President, contributing to a rich exchange of ideas and strategies.
Additionally, Hayward participated in the Future of Economy Forum, which targeted “Recalibrating Economic Priorities for 2026.” This session addressed how governments can adjust their strategies to better suit the coming years and highlighted potential partnerships among advanced and emerging economies. The dialogue proved crucial for nations looking to shift economic focus in response to dynamic global challenges.
Bermuda’s Role on the World Stage
Minister Hayward’s attendance at the WGS underscores Bermuda’s commitment to sustainable economic development and international cooperation. With an estimated attendance of over 6,000 participants and 150 government delegations, this summit provides an invaluable opportunity for Bermuda to showcase its economic resilience and regulatory innovation on a global platform.
Minister Hayward expressed his gratitude for the chance to participate, stating, “It is a privilege to engage in discussions that navigate the complexities of the modern global economy. Our participation not only aims to contribute to global dialogues but also to build strategic partnerships that strengthen Bermuda’s economic framework.”
This summit serves as a reminder of the importance of international collaboration in tackling contemporary governance challenges and fostering economic growth. Hayward’s proactive involvement affirms Bermuda’s role in global conversations about sustainable innovation and resilient economies, positioned well for future challenges and opportunities.
