Dubai SME Introduces ‘GameForward’ to Boost Emirati Game Developers

Dubai has announced an exciting new initiative aimed at bolstering its video game industry. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME), in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has unveiled GameForward, an accelerator program designed specifically for Emirati game developers. This initiative is poised to significantly enhance Dubai’s burgeoning gaming ecosystem.

A Rising Opportunity in the Gaming Industry

As the global gaming market continues to soar, it is projected to reach an impressive $188.8 billion (AED 693.4 billion) by 2025, according to insights from market analytics firm Newzoo. Recognizing the potential impact on the local economy, GameForward aims to help Emirati developers translate their innovative ideas into successful business ventures. This effort aligns with the greater mission of diversifying and strengthening Dubai’s economy while carving a niche in this lucrative industry.

Supporting Local Talent through Structured Guidance

GameForward is designed to address the needs of emerging game developers, offering essential resources that empower them to thrive. The initiative is closely coordinated with the Dubai Films and Games Commission (DFGC), which plays a pivotal role in fostering the emirate’s film and gaming sectors. Participants in the program will benefit from a structured approach, culminating in a Demo Day at the Dubai Esports and Games Festival in May 2026. Here, finalists will have the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of gaming industry experts and investors, potentially securing crucial funding.

Winning teams will receive additional support post-program, focusing on opportunities for global expansion beyond the UAE market. This not only emphasizes the competitive advantage for local creators but also encourages innovation and entrepreneurship on an international scale.

Aligning with the Broader Economic Vision

GameForward is strategically positioned within the framework of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2033, both dedicated to fostering Emirati talent in high-growth sectors. The program contributes significantly to the ambitious goal of launching 27,000 new Emirati businesses by 2033, while also aiming to generate 30,000 new jobs within the gaming industry.

Ahmad Al Room Almheiri, Acting CEO of Dubai SME, articulated the importance of this initiative in nurturing a robust gaming economy that centers on local innovation. By equipping Emirati developers with top-tier training and mentorship, Dubai aims to secure its place as a global leader in the digital economy.

Inclusive Opportunities for Aspiring Developers

GameForward is designed to accommodate both individual developers and teams that include at least one Emirati founder. The program seeks to attract individuals with high potential as well as established developers looking to scale their existing projects. Starting in March 2026, participants will receive support across four key areas: technical training in game design and monetization, business planning workshops, individualized mentorship from seasoned industry veterans, and integration into the broader startup ecosystem via resources from the Dubai Founders HQ.

This comprehensive support framework not only enhances the skill set of Emirati game developers but also strengthens the community, ensuring a sustainable future for the gaming industry in Dubai. By doing so, the emirate is reinforcing its commitment to becoming a global hub for innovation and creativity in gaming.
