Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, recently inaugurated the 28th iteration of the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX). This event, hosted by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), showcases Dubai’s commitment to becoming a global center for investment and innovation, guided by the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister.
Dubai’s Vision for Sustainability
Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that Dubai is continuously strengthening its role as an international leader in sustainable investments and innovative technologies. He remarked that WETEX exemplifies this vision by providing a platform that fosters partnerships and encourages the adoption of cutting-edge solutions in the energy, water, and environmental sectors. This year’s exhibition aims to enhance international collaboration, stimulate future investments, and promote sustainability, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a crucial player in advancing global sustainable development.
WETEX is taking place from October 20 to 22, 2026, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event is graced by several esteemed attendees, including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and other senior officials. These dignitaries underline the importance of the exhibition in connecting local and international stakeholders in energy and sustainability sectors.
WETEX: A Global Platform for Innovation
Over its 28 years of existence, WETEX has established itself as a premier global venue for discussions on sustainability, the green economy, and future technologies. According to Al Tayer, the exhibition has attracted around 3,000 exhibitors from 60 countries, with participation from 13 international pavilions. Spanning 85,000 square meters, the event is supported by 60 local and international sponsors, reflecting confidence in Dubai’s status as a hub for innovation and sustainability.
Sheikh Ahmed toured the exhibition, exploring innovative technologies in renewable energy, water sustainability, and artificial intelligence. His visit included stops at various pavilions, showcasing contributions from prominent entities such as the Roads and Transport Authority, ENOC, and Siemens Energy. These interactions exemplify WETEX’s role in displaying cutting-edge advancements in sustainable technologies.
Innovative Projects Leading the Way
During the exhibition, DEWA highlighted several pioneering projects. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, expected to soar to a capacity of over 8,000 megawatts by 2030, currently stands at 4,660 megawatts. An exciting feature of this solar park is its integration of an extensive battery energy storage system which will significantly enhance green energy accessibility.
Moreover, the Green Hydrogen Project marks a significant advancement as the first of its kind in the MENA region. This initiative utilizes solar energy to produce green hydrogen, signifying strides towards a more sustainable energy landscape. Other remarkable endeavors include the Hassyan Reverse-Osmosis Seawater Desalination Plant, which is the largest of its kind in the world and will reach a capacity of 180 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
In addition, the Hatta Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant exemplifies revolutionary advancements. As the first facility of its kind in the GCC, it will provide a robust production capacity with significant energy storage. Alongside these developments, DEWA showcased its AI-driven Gas Turbine Intelligent Controller, enhancing gas turbine efficiency and improving the operational capabilities of the Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Complex.
The ongoing efforts of DEWA not only represent technological advancements but also carve pathways for sustainable practices and innovative solutions in energy and water resources. This commitment showcases Dubai’s endeavor to lead global conversations in sustainability and green technologies while nurturing a future-oriented economic landscape.
