Mohammed bin Rashid Attends 2026 Arabian Travel Market in Dubai
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum recently visited the Arabian Travel Market 2026 in Dubai, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to enhancing its position in the global tourism arena. The event focused on innovations such as artificial intelligence, smart mobility, and sustainable tourism, aligning with the industry’s recovery trends post-COVID-19 disruptions. This initiative reflects Dubai’s strategy to leverage technology to redefine travel experiences by 2040.
Dubai’s Role in Global Tourism
The Arabian Travel Market, a pivotal industry event, runs from September 14 to 17 under the theme “Travel 2040: Driving New Frontiers Through Innovation and Technology.” The conference is set to explore how emerging technologies and shifting traveler expectations can shape the future of tourism. Sheikh Mohammed’s visit emphasized Dubai’s ambition to re-establish itself as a leading global tourism hub, especially as the city witnesses a resurgence in its visitor economy.
Sheikh Mohammed, who serves as the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, was accompanied by other dignitaries, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. During his tour, he was briefed by Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, about the exhibits that showcased the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and smart mobility systems. These technologies are instrumental in enhancing the visitor experience and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
Focus on Technology and Sustainability
The Arabian Travel Market features substantial participation from various sectors, including hospitality, aviation, and technology. Sheikh Mohammed visited numerous exhibition stands, including those representing well-known airlines such as Qatar Airways, as well as significant hotel chains like Marriott Bonvoy and IHG Hotels & Resorts. The event serves as a platform for industry leaders to forge partnerships, uncover new opportunities, and discuss sustainability initiatives, which are becoming increasingly vital in the tourism sector.
According to reports, Dubai’s tourism authority, alongside over 115 co-exhibitors, is actively engaging with more than 300 travel professionals from over 40 countries at the event. This engagement illustrates Dubai’s recovery trajectory, evidenced by an influx of nearly 869,000 international overnight visitors in August, marking the highest month since February.
Driving Economic Growth Through Tourism
The backdrop of Arabian Travel Market aligns with a recent boost in Dubai’s visitor economy. Hotel occupancy rates have seen a significant rebound, climbing from 36% in March to 66% in August, while the number of occupied room nights has substantially increased. These statistics indicate that Dubai is bouncing back robustly from previous disruptions, reinforced by a supportive initiative that allocated AED 2.5 billion to aid tourism-related businesses.
The recovery phase follows a record year in 2025, during which Dubai welcomed 19.59 million international visitors, with Dubai International Airport managing 95.2 million passengers. The broader implications of this recovery extend to the UAE’s gross domestic product, where the travel sector contributed an estimated $68.5 billion in 2025—a growth rate surpassing the global average.
As the industry unfolds innovative strategies to respond to future challenges, this year’s Arabian Travel Market serves as both a showcase for cutting-edge technologies and a strategic forum for enhancing demand and strengthening industry collaborations. Positioned strategically at this transformational juncture, the UAE aims to redefine the global landscape of travel and tourism, paving the way for a resilient and prosperous future.
