Dubai Introduces ‘Click and Travel’ to Expedite Airport Immigration Process
A groundbreaking service has been launched to streamline immigration processes and enhance the efficiency of passenger processing, especially during busy travel seasons and emergencies. This new initiative promises to significantly reduce waiting times and improve the overall airport experience for travelers.
Advanced Biometric Technology
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai has introduced a sophisticated system that leverages advanced biometric technology, incorporating features such as fingerprint recognition, facial scanning, and electronic passport reading. This smart solution also includes automated pre-screening and access to passenger data via a secure communication network. By utilizing this technology, immigration officers can complete passenger transactions within a mere 12 to 15 seconds, substantially minimizing wait times at the airport.
Successful Pilot Phase
In its trial run, dubbed “Click and Travel,” the service successfully managed the immigration procedures for 31,373 passengers from its initiation in May 2026 through August. This pilot phase served to evaluate the efficiency of the service and prepare for its broader rollout across various terminals within Dubai’s airport. By moving away from fixed counters, this mobile system grants immigration officers the freedom to navigate airport concourses and process passengers on the go. This flexibility allows airport personnel to better manage passenger flows and respond to spikes in demand during busy periods.
Gradual Rollout Strategy
The implementation of the “Click and Travel” service was executed in a phased approach. The first pilot was launched in October 2025, specifically at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport. Following promising results, a second phase in May 2026 expanded the service to accommodate all passenger categories throughout the airport. GDRFA Dubai officially launched the service on September 7, 2026, after assessing the outcomes of both the pilot and expansion phases.
Accessible to All Travelers
The “Click and Travel” service is available for a broad audience, including UAE citizens, residents, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals, and visiting travelers. This undertaking aligns with Dubai’s ambition to integrate smart technologies and innovative solutions in its airport infrastructure. The initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to digital and biometric advancements that enhance operational efficiency and improve the overall passenger experience. Furthermore, the mobile system equips immigration teams with the flexibility to adapt quickly to varying passenger numbers, thereby better managing congestion during peak travel times and emergencies.
In summary, the new Click and Travel service incorporates cutting-edge technology to revolutionize the immigration process, substantially reducing waiting times and enhancing the user experience. Its phased deployment and wide accessibility further demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction in international travel.
