Dubai Maritime City (DMC) continues to establish itself as a pivotal maritime services hub, achieving a remarkable milestone. On July 28, 2026, DMC welcomed its highest number of vessels in dry berths, totaling 52 ships in a single day. This achievement underscores the increasing demand for maritime servicing, dictated largely by rising production levels in the regional oil and gas sectors.

The need for vessel servicing is witnessing robust growth, as indicated by a 22% year-on-year increase in dry-berth occupancy for July. Over the month, the total number of vessels serviced climbed to 202, marking a 7% rise from the previous total of 188. Offshore vessels, particularly those measuring up to 150 meters, are driving this demand as operators seek to ensure their fleets are fully operational. Notably, this trend emphasizes the importance of effective maintenance and timely servicing within the maritime industry.

DMC’s Commitment to Infrastructure Investment

Abdulla Al Hashmi, the Global COO of Parks & Economic Zones at DP World, remarked on the growing demand at DMC, highlighting it as a reflection of the region’s expanding maritime sectors. He noted that the investment in DMC is designed to enhance its capacity while solidifying Dubai’s status as a global maritime services hub. By fostering a supportive ecosystem that connects industry, trade, and logistics, DMC is poised to meet the evolving requirements of maritime operations.

Enhancing Facilities and Technology

Ahmed Alhammadi, COO of DMC, emphasized that the performance in July signifies the trust that shipowners place in DMC. The organization’s commitment centers around ensuring adequate capacity and capabilities to meet customer needs effectively. In response to growing demand, DMC is acquiring and retrofitting over 500 ship cradle units, which can accommodate as many as 60 smaller vessels. In addition to expanding physical capabilities, DMC is also embracing automation to streamline operations. The process has already seen the automation of three vehicle gates, resulting in the digitization of approximately 16,000 vehicle movements weekly. Furthermore, the introduction of AI-based safety systems and the automation of berth booking and reservation processes mark significant advancements in operational efficiency.
